Dia de Los Muertos and Local Celebrations

Dia de Los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is traditionally celebrated October 31st thru November 2nd. Dia de los Muertos is a holiday to remember and celebrate the lives of loved ones who have passed away. Many families set up altars decorated with food, sugar skulls, and photos of the deceased.

There are many cities hosting in Dia de Los Muertos events. One of the most popular is the Dia de Los Muertos celebration held at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery (http://www.ladayofthedead.com/).

For those in the San Gabriel Valley area, the city of El Monte will be host to the 5th Annual Dia de Los Muertos celebration at the Valley Mall. Produced by the Nuvein Foundation for Literature and the Arts (http://www.nuvein.org), this event will feature art, poetry, altars, music, and more! And it’s all completely FREE. Below is a video I put together from last year’s event:

I am so excited to be participating in this event along with the Mid Valley Radio crew. Join us this Saturday, October 18, 2014, 1pm-7pm at the El Monte Valley Mall. It’s sure to be a lot of fun 🙂
